THIS RUN IS NO LONGER THE FASTEST. PLEASE SEE HERE FOR THE FASTEST.
Speed run of Metroid Prime collecting items in what is thought to be an order intended by the game's designers - a so-called "natural route run". Available in low, normal and high quality.
Author's comments:
As i saw there wasn't really a definition of "no sequence breaking"/ or "natural route" and as there were no rules about it i have made some rules:
"everything is allowed in a no sb run as long as you collect the main items and the chozo artifacts in the intended order."
so it doesn't matter if there are speed tricks, short cuts etc. in it as long as you follow the hint system's order and collect the main items and artifacts in the logical possible order. and as long as you don't leave the game and don't go out of the game (as long as you don't use warps/secret worlds,..)
And for a no sb run there would be version differences between NA/PAL as well. same like in the sb runs. For example in a PAL no sb run you can't take the short cut to waste disposal because of the door lock and because of the lack of scan dash jumps on pal version. so logically a no sb run on Pal version would be slower than a no sb run on ntsc. same as the sb runs.
and the artifacts are very important too as you need all the 12 artifacts to finish the game. so they must be collected in the intended order too, same like the main items. and therefore i have also made a route for a no sb-any% run.
this is the route i took:
1.missile launcher
2.morph ball
3. charge beam
4.morph ball bombs
5.varia suit
6.boost ball
7.space jump boots
8.wave beam
9.Thermal Visor
10.Super Missile
11.spider ball
--1.artifact of nature
--2.artifact of wild
12.ice beam
13.gravity suit
--3.artifact of lifegiver
14.power bomb
15.grapple beam
16.plasma beam
--4.artifact of world
17.x-ray visor
--5.artifact of chozo
--6.artifact of warrior
--phazon suit
--7.artifact of newborn
--8.artifact of spirit
--9.artifact of elders
--10.artifact of sun
--11.artifact of strength
--12.artifact of truth
stating above, i have collected the thermal visor before the super missiles. i did it because it is really possible to get the thermal visor before the super missiles. even if you wouldn't do sequence breaking you could still pass off the super misssiles, go and collect the thermal visor and then collect the super missile later on the way back to Thardus. so that's why i did. it's not sequence breaking.
note 2: after collecting the power bomb and the grapple beam, you are able to go to magmoor geo core and collect the plasma beam. and that's what i did. so you are not supposed to go and collect the x-ray visor first. well you can go and collect the x-ray visor first if you want, but i see no logical reason for speed in doing it.
well originally my goal for this was to beat CALFoolio's 1:46 any% which was sequence broken. well to see i beat even the 1:40 mark and get a 1:3x makes me happy.
enjoy,
